Texas law strictly prohibits the possession and operation of slot machines for gambling purposes. Slot machines are classified as gambling devices under the Texas Penal Code, and their use is generally illegal outside of very specific exceptions. 
There are limited exceptions to this rule. Slot machines may be legally possessed if they are over 25 years old and are used for decorative or collection purposes only, not for gambling. Additionally, certain electronic amusement machines that offer non-cash, merchandise-based prizes may be permitted under specific conditions.
The Texas Legislature has consistently rejected proposals to legalize casino-style gambling, including slot machines, at the state level. However, slot machines are legal and operational on federally recognized tribal lands, such as the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino. |
